What we sell, and just as usefully, what we do not.
"Home safety equipment" covers an enormous range, from smoke alarms to stair gates. It is worth being straight about where we fit in it, because most people arriving on this page are looking for one specific thing.
What we sell
We sell bathroom and bedside equipment. That is the whole range:
- Raised toilet seats, which clamp onto your existing toilet and add 12.7 cm of height, with or without arm supports.
- Bath safety rails, which clamp to the side of the bath and give you a fixed handle to hold while you step over the wall. No drilling.
- Bidets, from a handheld sprayer to an electric seat with warm water and a dryer, for when reaching to wipe is the difficulty.
- A bed assist rail and a long handled reaching aid, for getting out of bed and for reaching.
What we do not sell
We do not stock smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, fire blankets or extinguishers, stair gates, cupboard locks, window restrictors or first aid kits. If that is what brought you here, another shop is the right place, and we would rather say so than sell you the wrong thing.
How to work out what you need
Start with the movement that has become difficult, not with the product.
Standing up off the toilet points to a riser. Getting in and out of the bath points to a rail, and the thickness of your bath wall decides which of our two fits. Reaching to clean points either to a long handled grip, if the issue is reach, or to a bidet, if the issue is grip strength. Getting out of bed points to the bed rail.
Most people need one of those, not all of them.
What we will not claim
These are daily living aids. None of them is a medical device, and we do not claim that any of them prevents falls, accidents or injuries. What they do is give you height, a handhold, water instead of paper, or extra reach. That is genuinely useful and it is enough.
Where a supplier publishes no maximum user weight, the product page says so instead of carrying an estimate. On something that takes a person's whole weight, a guessed number is worse than an honest gap.
If someone has had a fall, an operation or a change in mobility, an occupational therapist can assess what actually suits them and their home. We can tell you what a product does and what it is made of, and that is the limit of what we know about your situation.
